Only two weeks ago and it was announced that Kanye West had a one day show at London's Hammersmith Apollo. Did a little research on the net and saw that he announced another one day show but this time at the Zenith arena in Paris on the 25th February the day before Paris Fashion Week. Now this sounded much better to me. Set my iCal alarm to ring the same time as ticket sales are released. The following morning I was a proud owner of Kanye West tickets for me and my friends.
I headed out to Paris on the Eurostar which is always the best and easiest way. Straight to the hotel which is a stones throw away from Colette one of my favourite stores in Paris and straight across the road from Tuileries Gardens which is one of the locations where Paris Fashion Week is held.
Before heading out to the Kanye West show in the evening I decided to say a quick hello to a friend who also travelled with Mr West as part of his tour and has a really cool jewellery brand which will be released pretty soon and met his friend Virgil the designer of the Pyrex brand which was recently released in the Colette store only a month ago and sold out within days due to its popularity and celebrity following from the likes of Chris Brown, Kim Kardashian, Rita Ora, Jay-Z and Mr West himself.
After we decided to have lunch at the ground floor Water Bar in the Colette Store and then we headed out for some quick shopping in the fabulous boutiques of Rue Saint-Honore.
After shopping and a quick refresh at the hotel we started to get ready to make our way to the Zenith arena, I got dressed Kanye West style (of course) in pieces from my own collection (what else?) my preferred piece being the leather hoodie which is also a favourite of Chris Brown. I also wore my 'Live West Die Young' t-shirt over black denim.
Travelling to the Zenith arena was easy, the Paris subways are clearly marked. When we got to Zenith there was a mile long queue with trendy Parisian kids all dressed in the latest street wear brands and sought after sneakers. We managed to jump the queue and inside the arena the atmosphere was amazing, it was a large venue with a perfect layout for concerts, much better set up than the London Apollo. The stage was pure white with 2 side screen projections ready for Kanye West.
I actually panicked thinking I'm going to have trouble reciting any of the songs assuming he would sing loads of new material but someone must of read my mind and song after song I managed to sing along in a sort of X-Factor reject tone (singing is not my forte). But the show was amazing apart from Mr West's rants and screams and his personal comparison of himself to the likes of Picasso, Steve Jobs and Basquiat, but I suppose that comes with the package, no genius is sane, well none that I have met so far. It was a great show and well worth the journey, the only disappointment was that he didn't sing N***** in Pars, which really you would expect out of all cities he's been performing out, you can't really skip out that song. Regardless Mr West told the crowd he will be back in two months with new material.
After the show my friends and I ate at a 24 hour restaurant serving mussels and steak which served with good wine put a nice end to a great night.
The following morning being the start of Paris Fashion Week we managed to start the day with breakfast at my favourite place, Hotel Costes which is also in Rue St Honore a much favoured hot spot of the coolest in Paris and a must for anyone that loves to people watch. It was full of the hottest models, fashion editors, bloggers and musicians all enjoying the chic decor and atmosphere.
After breakfast we managed to spend more time shopping and this time we decided to visit the more qwerky boutiques that sold something a little different to the norm. I managed to find some really cool sneakers in vivid colours and patterns.
After shopping we had a nice lunch at nearby cafe Angelina which is 2 minutes walk from our hotel at 226 Rue De Rivoli. My favourite on the menu being the shredded veal with wild rice and for desert it had to be the Millefeuille pastry served with tea.
After a filling lunch we collected our luggage and headed our way back to the Eurostar home to London. It was a quick but eventful couple of days filled with all my favourite things, Kanye, shopping, fashion and cool hangouts. What else could I want, I'm sure I will be back real soon and this time it will be to see my favourite rapper of all time.
