The Final McQueen Show
Sadly the final show by Alexander McQueen took place in an 18th Century Mansion in Paris. Only a handful of editors, friends and staff that had worked for him were invited to this low key show. The true talent of a designer known for his fine details coming from the fabrics choices to the embroidery, applique and tailoring have wowed critics again. This season his look was taken from medieval portraiture of Royality and nobel women. It reminded me of the portraits I used to love staring at for hours in London's National Gallery, costumes fit for Queens. This show is his last mark and never disappointing.

The Red Carpet at the 2010 Oscars
This is the fashion moment that the whole world is waiting for, the make or break of any respectable fashioner designer. The top players of the Oscars tend to be the likes of Elie Saab, Marchesa, Chanel, Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Jean Paul Gaultier, Versace to name a few. Now I tend to love the stars who turn up wearing a vintage gown like a Chanel or Valentino, they tend to be appear more at ease and relaxed, concentrating on their character and presence and not the dress. This year to be honest seems to be a fashion wreck, with only one or two stars working it well...now I might seem biased as I totally and utterly love anything that Nicole Richie wears. There is something about her style ethos, she always gets it right. But thats maybe because we have the same taste when it comes to dressing up, being hippies at heart and with a total love of Vintage. Now I'm not quite sure which designer she wore, but she wore the dress and didn't let the dress wear her, unlike the other stars and their disasters. Those who wore it soooo badly I didn't put their picture up as I thought they might make my web site and blog look really bad, so I left it for other sites to upload their pictures. So my top 2 will be Nicole Richie and Miley Cyrus. I will let you decide who worked it or wrecked it !!!

Rihanna loves Rude Boy's
My fashion queen and idol Rihanna aka Riri always comes up trumps when it comes to music, style and videos....so when I heard this tune I rushed to the web to see the video and again I love it....Riri just gets things right all the time and works with the best. This video was directed by Melina Matsoukaso, and even though it has been criticized to have similarities to M.I.A's video for 'Boyz', I still think its awesome and reminds me of the early 80's pop videos and Pop art culture. Love the Keith Haring graffiti background too, the fashion pieces and look of this video including the 'bogle' dance will surely be an hit over the coming months.

To London Fashion Week and Bach
Whilst I was away last week sorting out my new designs for 2010 knowing full well that I will be sadly missing the opening of London Fashion Week I got a text from my dear friend Mette. She invited me to come and see her friend Soren Bach, who she spoke so highly of, for his skills and individulity in the millinery world. I have never been a hat fan myself, as I have big enough hair that would seem impossible to find one that fits. But judging from Mette's enthusiasm I promised on my return to London that I would come and see Sorens collection which he was showing in Somerset House. So after a lazy Sunday morning I put together an outfit to show 'yes i am a designer and yes i can dress trendy too' but over doing slightly by having not 1 but 2 Alexander McQueen scarves (one tied to handbag and other used as a belt) in respect to the designer that the fashion world doesn't seem to function in the same way without. So off I go and head straight to Somerset House to the East Wing past the Mark Fast's and David Koma's spaces, heading through the corridor and then finally I noticed these colour fur pieces. I saw Mette and was welcomed by her companion this bubbly male dressed very casually in a shirt, denim and a puffa waistcoat. I didnt know who he was at first as he was so underplaying this 'I'm a designer' look, which I terribly tried to put together that same morning. I had a quick chat with Soren about his work, trying to get a few moments with him as he had loads of onlookers and press questioning him about his ideas, techniques and individuality in the Millinery world. This was not a man new to this game. Soren worked as a hair stylist for over 20 years after then he decided to do a Masters in Millinery at The Royal College of Art. His press book was bursting with full sized magazine spreads, with photoshoots by photographers as renowned as Mario Testino. His work has been featured in Vogue, Dazed and Confused, POP and Numero and modelled by the likes of Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. The most interesting part of his bold and meticulously pieces is that they have all been hand made by the man himself...every single one. This guy has re-drafted the word hats to a new level and I am so happy to get to meet such a talented and humble designer.

Anna Miriam
I have a new blogger to add to my new found obsession...Anna Miriam a young sassy design graduate for the famous Central Saint Martins College in London. Anna Miriam has travelled the world and lived in many cities from Hong Kong, New York and London but found her new love in Dubai city. Due to her extensive travel Anna decided to set up a blog about all her favourite things in Dubai, from food, fashion, people, design, beauty and happiness...and who better to give you the thumbs up than Anna. From being friends with Anna for several years now I couldnt think of a more trendy and talented graphic designer, film maker, fashionista and blogger. I think Dubai has found their new Sarah Jessica Parker, with a shoe and bag collection that 'SJP' would be envious of...keep an eye on this young lady's blogs at www.annamiriam.com

RIP Alexander McQueen 1969 - 2010
World famous fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his home today. His death comes days before the start of London fashion week and a month before McQueen was to unveil his new collection at Paris fashion week. It is such tragic news as McQueen was only 40 years old. He was born in 1969 in East London and a son of a taxi driver. He was sketching drawings of dresses on his bedroom wall from the age of 3. At the age of 16 McQueen landed himself an apprenticeship at Savile Row tailors Anderson & Sheppard. He later went on to work for Gieves & Hawkes and included clients like Prince Charles and Mikhail Gorbachev. In 1994 McQueen enrolled as a student at the famous Central Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. In 1996 he was instated by LVMH boss Bernard Arnault as head designer of Givenchy. He has won 'Designer of the Year' four times and has been awarded a CBE. He has also collaborated with Gucci and Puma. By the end of 2007 McQueen had his own stores in London, New York, Milan, Los Angeles and Vegas. We owe the past decade of fashion's 'l'enfant terrible' to Alexander McQueen who has been a great influence to myself and other fashion lovers all over the world. I will cherish every piece of clothing of McQueen that I own and remember what we have lost. God Bless McQueen. His family have left a message on his web site.

Emma Durnell - Fashion Illustrator
I came across this talented fashion illustrator through a late night browse through Facebook and my attention was brought to a group page on Emma Durnell. A recent graduate from the famous London College of Fashion. Her work has a fluidity and style unlike any other illustrators or 'artists' that I have come across. Even within my 7 years experience at art college. Seeing her work was like love at first sight. Emma's work reminded me of a modern day Toulouse-Loutrec, the famous French painter. It was colourful, spontaneuos, feminine and manipulated in a way where you can imagine Emma spending precious moments delibarating about her colour schemes, shades and pen marks. I was very excited about her work and thought it would look great combined with my new collection. I was working with soft pastel colours of dusty pinks, nudes, lilacs with added black to give it an edge. I contacted Emma Durnell who was a very bubbly enthusiastic and very beautiful young lady. We got on very well and she knew exactly what I wanted. I left her to do her magic and she stuck to the brief like a true professional. Emma came up with designs related to my style. She illustrated for me fairies, angels and female figures, all in poses that gave them a innocent and angelic feel. You can see all her designs on my new Spring Summer 2010 collection. I am so glad to have worked with Emma as I know I have spotted a 'star of tomorrow'. Emma has recently been commisioned by 'The Guardian Weekender' and 'StormStyle'
